Glenn Gould (1932-1982) is considered one of the most remarkable figures in the musical world, particularly renowned for his recordings of Bach's keyboard works. He is immediately recognized for his highly personal playing style and programming choices, which often earn him the label of "eccentric."

In his interpretation of the partitas, Glenn Gould favors polyphonic clarity over dramatic expression, but he draws from this choice incredible fluidity and poetry, thus bringing this collection closer to the interpretative art of Couperin. The challenge of this remastered edition was to homogenize a series of recordings made over a period of six years, in both mono and stereo, to enhance the comfort of prolonged listening.

In 1957, during a concert with the New York Philharmonic, Leonard Bernstein addressed the audience before the performance to express his disagreement with Glenn Gould's interpretation of Brahms' D minor Concerto, while stating, "We all have something to learn from this extraordinary artist."
