The fugue is the most demanding form of musical composition, but also the one that offers the composer the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and worth. Just as Wagner's Tristan and Isolde represents the pinnacle of Romanticism, Bach's Art of Fugue represents the apex of the Baroque era. Bach shows us through this unfinished posthumous work the full extent of his genius and his perfect understanding of the art of counterpoint.

Glenn Gould chose the organ to perform the Art of Fugue, and with it, counterpoint literally comes to life. He manages to create 9 microcosms, and the sound landscape changes completely from one fugue to another. It's as if Glenn Gould, like a potter, sculpts the sonic material, with a touch, so to speak, unique to each note. This remastering enhances the transparency of the sound planes from the extreme bass to the treble, giving Glenn Gould's playing an unparalleled relief and depth.
