The late Ataúfo Argenta's Symphonie Fantastique truly has something "fantastic" about it. Firstly, perhaps it's that sound, somewhat rustic yet no less elegant, that fascinates us. Secondly, to record a version that faces stiff competition and aims to be memorable, one must be willing to do more than just conduct well; one must be eager to "break the mold."

The Berliozian sentiment, always heightened and pushed to its extreme in his sole symphony, must find its match. And how could orchestral direction be entrusted to anyone other than Argenta when we hear him proudly declare: "With twenty instruments, I make as much noise as others do with a hundred!"
