Debussy: Nocturnes, La Mer

Eduard van Beinum (2024 Remastered, Amsterdam 1957)

1 disc(s) - 6 track(s)
Total length: 00:44:33

Edward Van Beinum succeeded Willem Mengelberg as the head of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam and maintained the standards of excellence set by his predecessor. This recording, like many others, remains a living testament to that golden age.

Van Beinum unfolds a world of harmonies and sound combinations that perfectly align with the musical identity of Claude Debussy: light evocations and subtle sensations. The sirens' song in the third nocturne, unique for its time, treats the voice as a symphonic instrument, and La Mer is a mature work where the orchestra becomes a palette of colors from which Debussy can draw like a painter.

The remastering brings undeniable balance and warmth to the timbres of the Amsterdam orchestra, allowing for a greater appreciation of all the details and subtleties of the score highlighted by the maestro.
