Sviatoslav Richter continually transports us into what we might call "the Schumanian dream". He knows how to combine poetry and technical perfection like no one else. With him, everything is ardently meditated, seriously approached and perfectly mastered.

Some might protest that this "restraint of the mind" is even a bit too pronounced and feel uneasy with the tempos sometimes adopted, but no matter... Sviatoslav Richter possesses such intelligence that his approach, however original, always transforms into pure art. This art is all the more impressive as a significant part of this anthology comprises live recordings.

Peut être est ce déplacé, ou pas, parfois mais on peut recourir à l’art - singulièrement à la musique de piano - non pas pour oublier ou se calfeutrer mais pour entrer en communion avec toute cette douleur du monde et trouver néanmoins la force l’espoir.

C’est comme cela que je comprends très précisément cette douloureuse page de Schumann sous les doigts bouleversants du magicien Richter.

On reste longtemps marqué par cette interprétation après la dernière mesure.

On partage entièrement votre ressenti. C'est une anthologie à emporter sur une île déserte avec les enregistrements d'Yves Nat, d'Alfred Cortot et de Vladimir Sofronitsky.

Sviatoslav Richter - Schumann Review

Richter is one of my favourite pianists, but one of the issues with so many of his body of work is that many of his records were recorded live and recorded very poorly. It is remasters like this that are needed to truly hear this the way that it was intended by the artist. Loved this purchase
