A ballet imbued with magic, The Nutcracker calls for an orchestral direction suited to the sparkling character of its music: toys come to life, children arrive to play with them and dream of them. The Nutcracker soldier, while trying to crack a nut that is too large for him, breaks into several pieces. A battle breaks out between the toys and the mice; the Nutcracker is transformed into a Prince, and each toy performs for him its own personal dance… Here is a program rich in colors and buoyancy!

Never has this score sounded so fresh and so natural, spontaneous and childlike as under Doráti’s baton. Conducting an LSO in magnificent form, he prepares for us incomparable orchestral delicacies—but not only that… Certain pages take on under his direction a grandiose orchestral dimension and allow us to glimpse Tchaikovsky’s symphonic world.

The remastered edition gives new relief, soundstage, and depth to this great classic. The timbre and sonority of each section sound all the more natural, and the orchestra’s rhythmic and dynamic surges reach the sublime. A pure delight!
